- OUR COACHES

Hey, I'm Darren.

Thanks for coming! I'm a Coach at BLOC and a dad of a 3 year old and have a huge passion for triathlon!

By day I am a Senior Safety Engineer based in the South-West having previously been a Nuclear Engineer with the Royal Navy. It was through the latter that I was introduced to the world of triathlon some 15 years ago. The sport has become a passion and I wanted to share this love of the sport which is why I have gone down the path of coaching.

Add to this an unhealthy obsession for all things cycling, this I firmly blame on my dad, taking me to the milk races as a kid to watch the likes of Malcom Elliott. Which is now what I do with my 3 year old daughter.

I have coached triathlon for the last 2 years, holding a British Triathlon level 2 coaching qualification and was (and still am) one of the lead coaches within Royal Navy Triathlon. Over the last two years I have coached and lead camps both domestically and abroad, from grassroots (novice) to the elite.

The environment and the tempo we work to, as well as juggling a social and domestic life (having a 3 year old little princess keeps you on your toes) I understand that time to train is precious, so you want to make the most of it. As a team we aim to work to the athletes needs, be it building towards your first sprint triathlon to setting a PB at an Ironman all the while remembering why we entered into the sport…because we ENJOY IT!!!

My palmarés includes riding the 2020 Tour de France route in its entirety in the same time frame, Everesting on Mont Ventoux and thus joining the Club des Cinglés (number 416 BiCinglétté), Ironman 70.3 world champs 2022 plus too many to count triathlons from sprint to full Ironman…as I said it’s a passion.
